Scholarships for 2009-10 Academic Year Available for Incoming, Returning and Graduating Students

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Application deadlines are approaching for current or prospective SUNY Orange students interested in pursuing the College’s wide array of scholarship opportunities for the 2009-10 academic year.

The College offers series of scholarships for students in three classifications: current students who will be returning to SUNY Orange next year; those who will be beginning their collegiate studies at the College; and those who have completed, or will complete, their studies during the 2008-09 academic year and are planning to transfer to a four-year institution. In addition, incoming students may apply for the highly competitive President’s Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Scholarship applications should be submitted to the College’s Financial Aid office based upon the following deadlines: March 15 (students who graduated in August or December 2008, or are due to graduate this coming may and will be transferring), April 1 (returning students) and May 1 (incoming students). The deadline for the President’s Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement is also May 1.

Application forms, scholarship criteria and other critical details are available on the SUNY Orange web site ( or by calling the Financial Aid Office at (845) 341-4190.

Students who apply for any SUNY Orange scholarship must also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application before they can be fully considered for a scholarship. Both applications can be completed online.

Each year, SUNY Orange awards more than $150,000 in scholarships to incoming, returning and graduating students. Scholarships targeted to specific academic degrees are available while general scholarships are awarded based upon a variety of criteria, which could include demonstrated financial need, academic achievement or faculty recommendations.

The President’s Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement is among the most prestigious scholarships awarded by the College.
