Utilizing this year’s theme of “A Magical Season,” the Garden Lovers will trim the five first-floor rooms of the College’s stately century-old mansion located, at 115 South Street in Middletown, with an array of festive holiday decorations. During the Holiday Open House, visitors will be able to enjoy self-guided tours of the mansion’s first floor from 1 to 5 p.m. on each of the four days. Admission is free.

The SUNY Orange Madrigal Singers will perform at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, and the College’s Chamber Ensemble will be featured at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14.

The Garden Lovers’ 2006 decorative theme, entitled “Holiday Celebration,” earned the organization a pair of prestigious awards. The Federated Garden Clubs of New York issued its top historic decorations award for public buildings—the Historic Building Holiday Decorating Award—to the Garden Lovers in June 2007. Then in September 2007, the group learned it had won first prize nationally, accepting the National Historic Preservation Holiday Decorations Award presented by the National Garden Clubs.

Donations will be accepted for the Peter Alberghini Inspirational Scholarship. Alberghini, a long-time SUNY Orange employee and advocate for Orange County residents through education, civic work and mental health programs, originated the Holiday Open House as a way for the local community to enjoy Morrison Hall. In addition, a limited supply of Morrison Hall replica ornaments, featuring a relief image of the mansion in brass and green enamel, will be available for sale at $25 each.

The Holiday Open House is jointly sponsored by the Educational Foundation of SUNY Orange and the College’s Alumni Association.
