PARKING CHANGES TO GO INTO EFFECT IN NEWBURGH ON NOV. 5

11/4/2008

Beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 5, construction crews will begin work at the future site of Kaplan Hall, to be located at the intersection of Grand and First streets in Newburgh. During construction, the College and nearby community will be required to utilize alternative parking measures. New parking procedures for students, faculty and staff are listed below.

1. The parking lot along First St. and Grand St. will no longer be available. A construction fence will enclose this lot, and excavation will commence on the new Kaplan building and underground parking garage.

2. Only tenants of the Maple Building may use the parking garage between 7 am and 5:30 pm. College faculty, staff, and students may use the garage after 5:30 pm and on Saturday.

3. Parking for faculty and staff and those with handicapped parking permits: Five or six additional handicapped spaces will be created across from our revolving front door. The handicapped spaces between the Maple and Tower building will remain. Approximately 20-25 new spaces will be created and reserved for faculty and staff along Broadway right next to the Tower building.

4. Parking will still be available in the rear of 54 Grand St (former YMCA Building). However, the staircase from the campus level will be blocked off. Those using the 54 Grand St. lot will have to walk along Grand St. and Broadway to reach the Tower building. The entrance to the lot, previously one-way, will become two-way. The entrance is quite narrow; proceed with caution.

5. Parallel parking for college faculty, staff, and students will be allowed along the length of Colden St., right below the Tower building on the river side.

6. Four additional parking lots have been designated and SHUTTLE BUSES WILL RUN A CONTINUOUS LOOP BETWEEN THE LOTS and the Tower building whenever classes are in session, beginning at 7 am and continuing until 10:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 7 am to 5:30 pm on Friday. The lots are located as follows:

• Two lots along the railway trestle at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd (Marine Drive). One lot is at the intersection with Third St.; the other begins at the southernmost trestle underpass between First and Second streets)
• One lot behind Ebenezer Baptist Church, bordering Montgomery, Second and Grand streets. A construction walkway will allow passage between the lot and the Maple and Tower buildings.
• One lot on Ann St. between Liberty and South Johnston streets.

These four lots will be signed as SUNY Orange parking but will also be available for general community access.
