Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants Bringing Regional Conference to Middletown Campus

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – More than 100 certified occupational therapy assistants from throughout the northeast, along with others from within the occupational therapy profession, will be at SUNY Orange on Saturday, Oct. 25, for a daylong, regional Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) conference.

The conference, to be held in Room 111 of the College’s Harriman Hall, will utilize the theme “The Time is Now …” as attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas, explore their roles, enhance their skills, encourage one another, and learn about emerging practice areas and new products. In addition, discussions on certification, the future of the profession and new professional opportunities that await COTAs.

The conference is jointly sponsored by SUNY Orange’s Occupational Therapy Assistant program and the Hudson-Taconic District of the New York State Occupational Therapy Association (NYSOTA). Sessions will begin at 8 p.m. and run until approximately 4 p.m. The registration desk will open at 7:15 a.m.

The early registration period ends on Oct. 16. Early registration fees, for members of their State’s Occupational Therapy Association, fees, are $25 for students, $75 for COTAs and $85 for Registered Occupational Therapists (OTR). Non-members will pay the following: $35 for students, $90 for COTAs and $100 for OTRs. Those who register after Oct. 17 will pay: $50 for students, $100 for COTAs and $120 for OTRs. Attendees may register on the day of the conference.

Caroline Alterio, COTA, ROH, past president of New York State Occupational Therapy Association (NYSOTA), will serve as keynote speaker. An array of topics and speakers are scheduled, along with a student luncheon and forum that will be hosted by SUNY Orange students.
