SUNY Orange Moves Local Job Postings Online to Aid Students and Assist Area Employers

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – For Hudson Valley businesses seeking exposure to a sizeable pool of prospective employees, placing a job posting on SUNY Orange’s newly established “Career Portal” may be the answer as the new site will offer students around-the-clock access to local employment opportunities.

The new initiative seeks to capitalize on technology, provide a more effective way for students to access job postings and present local employers with an efficient link to potential employees, according to Petra Wege-Beers, director of the College’s Office of Career and Internship Services.

Prior to the creation of the Career Portal, SUNY Orange students could only access the Career and Internship Services job posting list, which previously was maintained in a notebook binder, during College office hours. Now, they will be able to scan job postings from any computer with internet access. At any given time, the office’s employment posting list contains approximately 150 openings from throughout the Hudson Valley, but Wege-Beers is optimistic that number will increase now that the Career Portal has been created.

Once students register for the system, they can post and update resumes at their convenience, as well as view available job opportunities and learn more about those businesses that have openings. Registered employers will be able to submit job listings as well as search and scan student resumes.

Wege-Beers says the Career Portal will also be available for alumni and community members as the College seeks to expand its overall career services portfolio, which includes career advising and counseling, assistance with job market research, professional development workshops, internship programs and other employment services.
