Gawronski, who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in occupational therapy from D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y., brings a strong educational, clinical and administrative background to his new post at SUNY Orange. At the College, he will oversee the administration of SUNY Orange’s health professions division (athletics, dental hygiene, diagnostic imaging, medical laboratory technology, movement science, nursing, occupational therapy assistant and physical therapy assistant).

During his three-year stay at Mercy College, located in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Gawronski taught a wide array of occupational therapy courses, coordinated all clinical fieldwork experiences for students and served as assistant director of the OTA program. As clinical education coordinator, he developed and maintained clinical affiliation contracts with more than 200 healthcare facilities throughout the metropolitan New York area.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Health Professions Division at SUNY Orange and to help the College advance its mission of ‘reaching out to all citizens of Orange County to enrich their lives through the highest quality of education possible’” Gawronski said.

Outside of the academic setting, Gawronski provided comprehensive occupational therapy and rehabilitation technology services to individuals at Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital from 1997 through 2005. Since February 2008, he has provided occupational therapy consulting services at YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities, a New York adult day program in Tarrytown, N.Y. In 2001, he founded Infinite Accessibility, LLC, Orange County’s first home modification remodeling company, offering occupational therapy consulting services to clients in school and community settings.

“During the interview process, Michael impressed us with his diverse background, in-depth knowledge of the occupational therapy field and firm grasp on current trends within the healthcare industry as a whole,” said Catherine Chew, vice president for Academic Affairs. “We could not be happier to have Michael on staff in this very critical administrative post, and we firmly believe he will be a tremendous asset to each of our health professions programs, the division of Academic Affairs and the College as a whole.”

Gawronski has given academic and community-oriented presentations on various methods of accommodating individuals with occupational therapy needs and has conducted research on effective ways of remodeling and outfitting homes to improve daily living conditions for individuals with disabilities.

He is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the New York State Occupational Therapy Association.

Gawronski resides in Chester, N.Y., with his wife Nikki, a physical therapist at St. Anthony’s Community Hospital, and their three children: son Michael, 6; daughter Madeleine, 5; and son Jude, 8 months.
