Band to Perform as Part of Hudson Valley Bounty Celebration June 28

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band will provide the featured musical performance at Monroe’s Museum Village, Saturday, June 28, as part of the Hudson Valley Bounty, a daylong celebration of Hudson Valley summer days.

The Hudson Valley Bounty will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band performing from 5 to 7 p.m. During the band’s concert, visitors will be invited to picnic on the Village Green beneath the 50-year-old maple trees. Under the direction of the Kevin Scott, the band will perform music by John Philip Sousa, Antonin Dvorak, Eric Ewazen, John Cacavas and William Owens.

Throughout the event, visitors to Museum Village can explore the exhibit buildings and work in the herb and dye gardens. Blacksmith and potters will be exhibiting their crafts and a local bee keeper will explain bee hives.

Evelyn Kanter, who writes for “Budget Travel” and “Travel and Leisure,” is the author of “Eating the Hudson Valley,” a guide to local restaurants whose menus showcase fresh ingredients from local farms, wineries and orchards. She will speak on environmental and sustainable travel and our fragile natural and cultural heritage. A member of the Wallkill River School will offer a display of artwork at 4 p.m., along with a presentation of Shawn Dell Joyce’s “Orange County Bounty,” a book outlining how each of us can reduce our carbon footprint by eating within a 100 mile radius of our home. The books by Dell Joyce and Kanter will be available for sale.

The Museum Village snack bar will be serving local foods made especially for the occasion. The event is scheduled rain or shine (with indoor concert venue in case of rain) with a suggested donation of only $5. For more information on the Hudson Valley Bounty, contact 845-782-8248.
