Approximately 725 Graduates Will Be Honored During Ceremony on Middletown Campus’ Alumni Green

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – With its stately century old Morrison Hall mansion as the backdrop, SUNY Orange will issue degrees and certificates to more than 350 graduates who will participate in the College’s 58th Commencement exercise at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 17 on the College’s Alumni Green in Middletown.

In all, approximately 725 graduates have completed their associate’s degree or certificate requirements during August, December or May of this current academic year. Any student who completed the necessary academic requirements during the 2007-08 academic year is eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

SUNY Orange alumnus Johnann Christoph Arnold (Class of 1961) will deliver the keynote address. A well-known counselor, author and speaker, Arnold has served peace missions in Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Central America, Australia, Korea and Thailand. He has also ventured into schools, hospitals, nursing homes and prisons to deliver messages of non-violence, peace, sharing and service to others.

Jonah Brock, the College’s student trustee; Jennifer Doty (Class of 2000), president of the Alumni Association; and Stephen Winter, professor in the Business Management department, will deliver Commencement addresses. Additionally, Dr. Catherine Chew, vice president for Academic Affairs; Board of Trustees Chair Joan Wolfe and Orange County Executive Edward Diana ’68 will offer remarks.

Music will be provided by the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band and the national anthem will be performed by the College’s Choir.

SUNY Orange issues diplomas to students who earn Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science degrees, while presenting graduation certificates to those who complete the College’s various certificate programs.

Commencement will begin with the graduate procession at 10 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Physical Education Building.
