The concert, the second of three scheduled performances during this academic year as the orchestra celebrates its 10th season, will feature the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Joseph Haydn, Christoph Willibald Gluck and Carl Maria von Weber. The 60-member orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Hilarie Clark Moore and is comprised of SUNY Orange students as well as residents from throughout Orange County,

Rose, who has studied trumpet for nine years, will perform the first movement of Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major.” At Warwick Valley High School, Rose performs with the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Pep Band, Pit Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. In addition to working with private teacher Eric Parks and Warwick band director Chris Persad, Rose’s training includes summers with the Crane Youth Music Program and other music camps.

He has attended master classes with the New York Philharmonic’s principle trumpet player, Philip Smith, as well as with Dr. John Ellis, trumpet teacher at the Crane School of Music. Rose has previously performed with the SUNY Orange Community Orchestra, All-County Band and All-County Jazz Band. He mentors younger musicians in the Warwick Valley Middle School Jazz Band, as well as the Concert Band trumpet players. Rose plans to pursue his musical career in the Fall of 2009.

The March concert program will open with two orchestral works that have contrasting compositional styles, Weber’s “Freischütz Overture” and selections from Gluck’s “Orpheus,” such as the overtures “Dance of the Blessed Spirits” and “Dance of the Furies.” Rose’s performance of “Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major” will follow before the orchestra concludes the event with the ever-popular Beethoven’s “Seventh Symphony in A Major, Op. 92.”

General admission to the concert is $5. For additional information, contact the Arts and Communication Department at (845) 341-4787. The Paramount Theater is handicapped-accessible.
