The century-old building will be open for free, self-guided tours from 1 to 5 p.m. during each of the four days of the Open House. The Garden Lovers have selected “Peace and Joy Around the World” as the theme for this year’s event. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the mansion’s first floor to answer questions about the unique history of the building. Morrison Hall is located at 115 South Street in Middletown.

Decorations this year will feature the holiday traditions of various countries from around the world. In addition, the foyer will showcase a tapestry of decorations from countries not included in one of the mansion’s five main first-floor rooms.

Last winter’s decorative theme, entitled “Holiday Celebration,” earned the Garden Lovers a pair of prestigious awards. The Federated Garden Clubs of New York issued its top historic decorations award for public buildings—the Historic Building Holiday Decorating Award—to the Garden Lovers in June. Then in September, the group learned it had won first prize nationally, accepting the National Historic Preservation Holiday Decorations Award presented by the National Garden Clubs.

The SUNY Orange Madrigal Singers will perform in the Music Room at 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 while the College’s Chamber Ensemble will be featured at 1 p.m. Dec. 9.

Alberghini, a long-time SUNY Orange employee and advocate for Orange County residents through education, civic work and mental health programs, originated the Holiday Open House as a way for the local community to enjoy Morrison Hall. In addition, a limited supply of Morrison Hall replica ornaments, featuring a relief image of the mansion in brass and green enamel, will be available for sale at $25 each.

The Holiday Open House is jointly sponsored by the Educational Foundation of SUNY Orange and the College’s Alumni Association.
