Pair of Short One-Act Plays Written by David Mamet to be Featured in College’s Orange Hall Theater

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – In conjunction with the College’s Alumni Day on Jan. 27, a SUNY Orange student and professor, under the direction of a College alumnus, will perform a pair of short one-act plays jointly entitled “Reunion” Jan. 26-28 at Orange Hall Theater in Middletown.

The two performances, featuring student MaryLee Shorr and professor Max Schaefer, will be directed by alum George Gallo and mark the inaugural event in a campaign to raise funds for the Theatre Arts Scholarships at SUNY Orange. The weekend’s three shows are a co-production of the Arts and Communications Department and the Apprentice Players. The plays, “Dark Pony” and “Reunion” were written by David Mamet. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26; 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28.

Saturday’s performance is the capstone event of a busy Alumni Day schedule. Reservations are recommended. There is no admission charge, but donations for scholarships will be taken at the door.

“Dark Pony” centers on a father telling his young daughter her favorite bedtime story to pass the time during a night auto ride while “Reunion” is a haunting story about the same father and daughter who meet after a 25-year separation. The father, a drifter and reformed alcoholic, tremulously attempts to establish a relationship with his daughter. Both are touching, terrible confrontations that explore a father’s love and a daughter’s courage

The Apprentice Players is the oldest student club in the SUNY Community College system and has the longest tradition of theatrical production of any two year college in the state.
