College’s Student Services Day Showcases Support Programs Available for Current Students

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – SUNY Orange is proud of the supportive and nurturing atmosphere it provides for its students, and staff members from 13 of the College’s departments joined forces Wednesday (Oct. 10) to showcase the College’s vast support services repertoire during Student Services Day, held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria of the George F. Shepard Student Center.

In all, more than 100 students filed through the “L-shaped” maze of tables that featured representatives from Admissions, Career Services, Advising and Counseling, Student Activities, Financial Aid, Health Services, Newburgh Extension Center, Student Support Services, Disability Services and the Registrar. In addition, the Bookstore, Library and Tutorial Services were on hand to answer students’ questions.

The kit featured a complete listing of names and phone numbers of College staff members responsible for the different support services areas, along with motivational sayings and other information to help students achieve success both inside and outside of the classroom. Other prizes were awarded to students as well.

“The feedback from the students and the staff on hand was tremendously positive,” said Madeline Torres-Diaz, SUNY Orange’s coordinator of student support services. “For us, it was a great opportunity to raise awareness, among our students, of the many support services we do offer here at the College. We have a lot of great services and we are here to help, and those were two key messages we were able to deliver.

“The staff members who volunteered to participate should also be commended for their enthusiasm. They were all genuinely excited to talk to the students, which really seemed to make the students feel appreciated,” Torres-Diaz added.
