Students and Community Members Can Visit Ireland, Greece, Italy or Peru

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Whether it’s for credit or pleasure, students, faculty and staff members from SUNY Orange, as well as those folks among the general public, will have four opportunities to travel and study abroad in 2007 as the College will sponsor trips to Ireland, Greece, Italy and Peru through its English and Social Sciences departments.

Three of the excursions—Greece, Italy and Ireland—will occur during the College’s Spring Break (Mar. 16-25) while the Peru trip is slated for July 13-21. Anyone wishing to sign on for the Greece, Italy and Peru trips must register for Field Studies Course #26205 while the Ireland package requires registration in Field Studies Course #11192.

Registration for SUNY Orange’s Spring 2007 semester will run from Nov. 28 through Dec. 15 and from Jan. 2 through Jan. 10. Classes will begin on Jan. 16. Early registration for current students and re-admitted students opens Nov. 28. Registration for newly enrolled students begins Dec. 7. All other students who have yet to be admitted to one of the College’s approved degree or certificate programs may begin their registration process on Dec. 8. Members of the community who are interested in participating in any one of the trips would register any time after Dec. 8, unless they have previously been admitted to a degree or certificate program and have yet to finish that program. For more information, contact the Academic Services Office at (845) 341-4129.

For the third straight year, English Professor Dr. Kathy Malia will organize the Ireland trip, which features tours of Dublin, Galway, Kinsale, Derry and the Aran Islands, along with a medieval banquet at an Irish castle, two theater performances, and dinner and entertainment at Taylor’s Three Rock in Dublin. Round-trip airfare, hotel, all breakfasts, three dinners, guided tours, all ground transportation, and entrance to archeological sites and museums are included as part of the trip’s $1,998 price tag. All necessary airport taxes are not included.

The itinerary for the trip to Italy features excursions to Venice, Florence, Assisi, Rome, Sorrento, Capri and Pompeii, with stops at many of the region’s most legendary attractions.
