Student Advocate, Bursar, Communications and Building Services Offices Add New Members

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – With the academic calendar in full swing and the busy summer hiring period having recently subsided, SUNY Orange added just five new full-time staff members in September, hiring an advocate for students with disabilities, a director of communications, an account clerk and two building services workers.

Jennifer Clayton, the new advocate for students with disabilities, joined the SUNY Orange staff after most recently working for Independent Living, a non-profit agency that assists individuals who have disabilities. A native of Cornwall, Clayton is a 2002 graduate of Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, having earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Services. She acquired a master’s degree in counseling and development from Long Island University in 2003.

Clayton will specialize in non-traditional students and will spend the bulk of her time at the Newburgh Extension Center.

Mike Albright was named SUNY Orange’s new director of communications, arriving at the Middletown campus following a 16-year stint in the athletic communications office at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

In his new role, Albright will be responsible for managing the college’s public relations and media relations programs; designing and coordinating a variety of college publications; and writing an array of releases, features and articles on behalf of the college.

During his tenure at West Point, Albright, who had risen to the post of associate director prior to his departure, was involved in every aspect of Army’s athletic communications efforts. He served as editor of Army’s award-winning game day football program, as well as the annual Army-Navy game program; handled media relations duties for a variety of sports, including men’s basketball and the Academy’s nationally renowned football program; designed and edited a host of athletic publications; and assisted with the maintenance of Army’s athletic web site.

He is a 1987 graduate of Bloomsburg (Pa.) University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. He resides in Newburgh.

Sharlene DiNunzio, of New Hampton, joined the Bursar’s office as an account clerk. In her role, she will assist with all facets of the office operation. In addition, William Ackley and Joseph Sullivan filled out the building services staff. Ackley is a resident of Middletown while Sullivan resides in Campbell Hall.
