MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – With nearly every academic and support program staffing a booth Wednesday evening (Oct. 4) during its annual Fall Admissions Open House, SUNY Orange showcased its vast array of offerings to prospective students, including current high school seniors intent on continuing their education as well as adults contemplating a return to the classroom.

In all, nearly 225 people visited the George F. Shepard Student Center for Wednesday’s event, with more than 100 of those attendees listing themselves as prospective students. Faculty and staff members were available to answer questions and distribute printed materials regarding academic programs, student support services, financial aid, admissions and extracurricular activities.

Additionally, members of the SUNY Orange Ambassadors, a service-oriented student group, joined facutly and staff members to provide guided tours of the college’s picturesque campus. Inside, the BG Café provided complimentary light snacks and beverages, including Blueberry Mountain Ice Cream.

“We were pleased with the turnout. This group of prospective students and parents was a warm group, a very outgoing group,” explained Margot St. Lawrence, SUNY Orange director of admissions. “We had quite a few alumni parents who brought their children to campus, and we are glad that they feel connected enough to the college to show their children the educational opportunities we have to offer.

“There was also a strong turnout of prospective adult students. Typically in the fall, our target audience is the high school seniors who are getting an early jump on their college selection process. We’ve been hoping to attract more adult students and it seems that we have,” St. Lawrence added.

St. Lawrence also indicated that a small grouping of high school juniors attended the event as well.

The Admissions Office will continue its community outreach efforts on Sunday, Oct. 22 when it will staff an information booth from Noon to 4 p.m. in the lower level center court of Middletown’s Galleria Mall.
