Liberty Partnership Program

Mission and Description

The mission of the Liberty Partnership Program is to develop and implement systemic and supportive interventions and opportunities for students identified as being at risk of dropping out of school. The program does this to ensure that these students will graduate from high school and are prepared to enter post secondary education and the workforce. The program serves 245 students in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District for each 12-month funding cycle from Heritage Junior High School, North Junior High School, South Junior High School and Newburgh Free Academy. Once enrolled, the expectation is that students will receive services until they graduated from high school and enter the college or the workforce. The program offers a myriad of services and activities that are appropriate to identified risk factors during summer and academic year. It aims to decrease the dropout rate, increase enrollment in post-secondary institutions, and encourage a positive outlook on life. We expect to enhance self-esteem and make youth a real catalyst for change in the community.

Components

Cooperative Relationship is a planned program designed to facilitate the participation of Liberty Partnership Program stakeholder in the development and implementation of the program´s components and services. Resources available from the schools, community-based organizations, governmental agencies, churches, local businesses and industry and other organization are coordinated in order to provide supplemental and expanded services from participating partners interested in working collaboratively. Collaborative regional efforts with other LPP program institutions are also utilized.

Academic Support Services is a program or service that effects in-class learning and student achievement on local and statewide exams. Tutoring, homework assistance, and study skills workshops focus on improving grade point average, test scores, daily attendance, and graduation.

Counseling is a systemic, student-centered personal development and guidance program that provides grade and age appropriate services designed to help students identify the issues that place them at risk. It teaches students to develop strategies and support systems that will help them overcome personal and societal barriers, graduate from high school, and pursue post-secondary education and the workforce as healthy, self-directed young adults. This component promotes self-awareness, enhance student´s internal focus of control in educational and personal decision processes, and helps students to develop and implement plans for their future.

Workforce Preparation is a strategic grade-level, age appropriate program that develops student knowledge of the world of work, teaches universal foundation skills (SCANS), and prepares students to make decisions about future career paths.

Parent Involvement is a multi-dimensional program that facilitates parental involvement in the educational and decision- making processes of their children. We aim to enhance parenting/interpersonal techniques; involve parents in the decision-making processes; and support parental involvement in local school and district decision processes.
