Computing

The Libraries are just one location for Newburgh and Middletown campus computer labs and are open when the libraries are open. Group work is permitted as long as the activity does not disturb others in the library. In Middletown, the front computer lab is intended for quiet individual use.

All campus PCs access the Internet including the Library's research databases and Angel classes. MS Office is installed with Word, Exel, Access, and Powerpoint. In order to log on to the computers you need your MySUNYOrange credentials; be sure to log out completely from MySUNYOrange and the computer. Ask at the front if you have any questions.

Students, faculty and staff can check out a library laptop or netbook to use in the library. You will need your SUNY Orange ID to check them out (no exceptions). The computers are equipped with MS office and connect to the Internet wirelessly. The library's laptops and netbooks connect to the library's printer.

Wireless Internet access is also available throughout the Library and is limited to SUNY Orange students, faculty and staff. To access sites outside the SUNYOrange.edu domain you need to login with your A-number and password. If you have any access issues, library staff at the front desk can help you. Please report any outages so they can be addressed by ITS staff.

The ITS department established rules for using the network and computer resources. Review the policies at the Computer and Network Use Policy page.

There is limited public access to computers. Guest users must show photo ID to create a guest account and agree to the SUNY Orange Computer and Network Use Policy. Guest user access may be suspended when there is a high student demand for computers.

Document Scanning

Both libraries have Scannx Scanners that are free for all to use as a copy machine. It features color or black and white scanning with an option for optical character recognition and outputs to pdf, MS Word or jpg files. Scans of documents, books, pictures, etc. can be emailed to a preferred email account or sent to a removable drive.

In Newburgh the scanner is located at the reference desk. Middletown has two scanners to the left of the entrance to the information commons.

The printers in the library can be used to print scanned documents.

Printing

Black and white printers are available in both of the Libraries. Students have a $40 print balance to start each semester. ten (10) cents will be deducted from the print balance for each single page printed. Printing on both sides of the page (duplex printing) costs seven (7) cents per page.

Money can be added to print balances by purchasing additional printing in whole dollar amounts from the front desk of either library. Only unused balances from print purchases carry over to the next semester. Unused balances that were not purchased are erased at the end of the semester. Print credit only applies to printing documents.

Guest users must pay for printing by purchasing PaperCut credit.
