Borrowing

Below is a brief summary of the circulation policy of the library, including the borrowing privileges for certain classes of users. For more information on the Library's circulation policy, see the Library Policies page.

Borrowers Card

SUNY Orange students, faculty, and staff need to present a valid SUNY Orange student or faculty/staff id card or photo ID in order to borrow items from the library.

Summer students, Alumni, or Orange County resident users will be issued a LRC card which they can use as a substitute for the SUNY id card.

Borrowing Privileges Policy

SUNY Orange students may borrow books from library collections for 28 days and renew once if the item isn't on hold for another borrower. Reserve books circulate within the library for two hours or until closing (whichever comes first). Interlibrary loan due dates vary according to the lending library.

SUNY Orange faculty may borrow books for one semester and renew once if the item isn't on hold for another borrower. Periodicals and videos may be borrowed for one week.

SUNY students, staff, and faculty have the same borrowing privileges as SUNY Orange students.

SUNY Orange Alumni have free borrowing rights.

Orange County residents can, for a $5 annual fee, have borrowing rights. This fee entitles them to borrow up to five books at once.

The Newburgh Collaborative entitles Newburgh Free Academy and Mt. St. Mary students and Newburgh Free Library patrons have free borrowing privileges.

Fines

Fines are charged for overdue books from library collections at a rate of 10 cents ($.10) a day. The maximum amout a user may owe is 25 dollars. A user owing more than $5.00, however, will have a "stop-hold" placed on their record, resulting in the suspension of borrowing privileges and prevent the student from registering for classess or viewing their grades.

Reserve material fines are 50 cents ($.50) per open hour for textbooks and $5 per day for other materials with a maximum of $200.

Interlibrary loan fines are $1 for 7 to 28 days overdue and an additional $5 per item that is 28 or more days overdue.
