Achievements

SUNY Orange began its commitment toward making its campuses more sustainable in 2007 when it took measures that could be easily and quickly enacted in the College's movement toward building a "greener" campus. A college wide commitment and awareness were quickly becoming evident at all levels. The following TIMELINE illustrates the many achievements and steps the college has taken so far:

  • 2016 – Progress Report (to 2011 Interim Climate Action Plan)
  • 2015 – Climate Action Plan finalized, including both Middletown and Newburgh campuses
  • 2015 – Progress Report (to 2011 Interim Climate Action Plan)
  • 2015 – Sustainability Master Plan, Revised/updated Edition
  • 2014 – Second AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) report submitted, Bronze rating
  • 2013 – Completion of SUNY Orange Greenhouse Gas Report
  • 2012 – Adoption of Board Policy 3.23 Sustainable Practices in College Operations
  • 2012 – Energy Audit performed on the Middletown Campus
  • 2011 – First AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) report submitted, Bronze rating
  • 2011 – Completion of SUNY Orange Interim Climate Action Plan
  • 2011 – Completion of SUNY Orange Greenhouse Gas Report
  • 2010 – Adoption of Board Policy 3.21 Sustainability in Capital Construction
  • 2010 – Completion of SUNY Orange Greenhouse Gas Reports for years 2003-2010
  • 2010 – Part time Sustainability Coordinator hired
  • 2010 – Approval of standing Sustainability Committee (part of College’s Governance System)
  • 2010 – AASHE Membership and Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS)
  • 2009 – Sustainability Master Plan, 1st Edition
  • 2008 – Sustainability was included as a Priority in Strategic Plan 2009-2014
  • 2008 – Sustainability was adopted as the theme for the 2008-2009 Global Initiative
  • 2007 – Summer: President’s Climate Commitment
  • 2007 – Creation of an ad-hoc Sustainability Committee
