Michael Quinn

Originally from Rochester, NY, Michael Quinn is a tenure-track instructor in the Department of Global Studies at SUNY Orange. He received his B.A. in history from SUNY Geneseo, and after a brief career in business, went on to study history at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in ancient Greek and Roman history.

He taught previously at the University of Washington, George Mason University, Hood College, Shepherd University, SUNY Oswego, and SUNY New Paltz.

Dr. Quinn’s academic and teaching interests range widely, though his recent research has focused on the moral ambiguities and challenges faced by soldiers in ancient warfare, as well as the practices of mastery by Roman slave-holders and the modes of resistance exhibited by Roman slaves.
