Fall 2008 Bonus Events
Bonus events are usually one session lectures or discussions of a special topic. Members may take as many bonuses as they wish, provided there is room. This fall there are THREE special Bonus events. They are:
BONUS: Orange County: From Henry Hudson to Its Founding, 1683
Friday, Sept. 26 - 2-4:00 pm.
Room - Harriman Hall 111
Join Dr. Richard Hull, Professor of History, NYU, who shares the results of his personal research on the early Dutch and native Indian settlements on the banks of the river. He’ll begin with Henry Hudson’s discovery of the Hudson and trace Orange County’s development until 1683 when the county was officially established. This Friday afternoon bonus lecture precedes two other events: the Encore trip to the Hudson River Maritime Museum (10/3) and county historian Ted Sly’s lecture, “Orange County: The Journey Continues”.

Room - Bio-Tech 207
Continue learning about Orange County’s history with an Encore favorite, Ted Sly. With slides and anecdotes,
he’ll take us through the years and centuries to our present day environs.
BONUS: Preservation of Farmlands & Historic Sites
Tuesday Sept. 16 1- 3:00 pm
Room - Harriman 314
Learn about the why’s and how’s of preserving two of the United States’ treasures: farmlands and historic sites. Learn, too, about such sites in our New York area and environs. Participants may join the instructor for a field trip to one or more of these local sites.
