art show

Twenty-one artists of a dynamic group will show their works in The Emotionalists art show November 4 through December 13, 2007 in Orange Hall Galleries, Orange County Community College. The Opening Reception, which is free and open to the public, is slated for Sunday, November 4 from 1 to 4pm with music being provided by internationally recognized musicians Krzysztof Medyna, sax and director and Andrzej Winnicki, pianist of the Komeda Jazz Group.

Gallery hours are 9am to 8pm Monday through Thursday, 9am though 6pm Friday, and during performances in Orange Hall Theater; closed Thursday & Friday, November 22 & 23.

The Emotionalists is a multi-media artists’ group with artistic styles varying from pure abstraction to classical realism. Founded by renown sculptor, nestor of the Polish School of Industrial Design, and professor emeritus Bridgeport University, Lubomir Tomaszewski, the group makes as its mission the return to the natural language of expression in art, that is what the artist is trying to say through this language. The Emotionalists also have as their function to restore true value and meaning to art and to reawaken deep emotions in the viewer.

The Emotionalists have had many exhibitions in Poland, Germany, France, and the United States during the last dozen years. And now they are showing their works in Middletown, NY.

Lubomir Tomaszewski will be exhibiting some of his superb sculptures as will painter Basha Maryanska, who is also the chair of the show.

About the two musicians:

Pianist Andrzej Winnicki and saxophonist Krzysztof Medyna toured Europe extensively during the 1980's with their original jazz group Breakwater. The group was featured at European jazz festivals, won an international jazz competition (as the group and the best instrumentalist - Krzysztof Medyna), and was broadcast on television and radio. Later, Medyna also performed as a member of the group In/Formation, with recording artist Tomasz Stanko. Trumpeter Tomasz Stanko worked on all of Krzysztof Komeda's Polish soundracks from 1964 onwards and was the composer's closest musical associate and band member from 1963 until 1968. In the United States, Winnicki and Medyna revived their original group (with help of Holden Nagelberg on bass and Dave Anthony on drums) during the 90's under the name Electric Breakwater, performing in places in the New York Tri-State area such as Zanzibar, The Five Spot, St. Peter's Church (known for ministering to the jazz community in NYC), Trumpets, Club Bene, and many others. In 2003 Komeda Project, a jazz quintet, was brought to life from a desire to perform, and showcase the music of Krzysztof Komeda again. In the summer of 2006 Komeda Project released its first CD entitled "Crazy Girl" after Komeda's composition of the same name.

Ivan Bratko:
Ivan primarily focuses on sculpting the human forms and figures. Most of his work is aimed at capturing and glorifying the human being. His big passion is original sculpture in marble, bronze and wood.

Janek Hausbrandt:
Janek started his work as a photojournalist in 1972 for Interpress Agency in Warsaw and quickly established himself as the press and editorial photographer in Europe. He moved to the US in the early 1980s. His works have been published in Time, Newsweek, Spiegel and Zeit magazines.

Stephanie Joyce:

Basha Maryanska:
“Basha focuses on the peacefulness  of nature to remind viewers that life is precious can be happy. Maryanska's technique ( in oils and acrylics) occasionally resembles pointillism with definition, and her ability to capture weather and seasonal conditions allows viewers to feel what her titles perfectly describe. She achieves this with glazers and texturing, along with vivid memories of how light once played on the vistas scenic qualities”.

Ewa Maslowska:
Ewa's pictures are painted with passion and great amount of expression. Her intense brushwork reveals rich texture and movement. Her strong light contrasts are the characteristic feature of all her paintings.

Kasia Maslowska:
“For me the most important thing in art is to observe an impression and show the atmosphere by presenting light and shadow or the color. I find my inspiration mainly in nature, but also in people and architecture, which is connected with my education because i study architecture. Everything what causes emotions- which can be either positive or negtive, is interesting. I use oil and acrylic, as well as  watercolor, charcoal and crayon.”

Zbigniew Nowosadzki:
His magic figures placed among colorful surfaces seem to be disappearing behind the scenes, or passing by in a way that they are almost not there...They are not real but they have personalities. Nowosadzki's colors are vivid and magic and his compositions are very clear.

Arthur Skowron:
In his art he shows a high degree of expressive intensity in order to direct viewer's attention to the mystery of nature. Anna Zatorska
“I focus primarily on the human form and the places that play major roles in people’s lives such as landscapes and architecture. Light and shadow play major roles in my art, I feel that they help set a mood of mystery within my works. I am not afraid of experimenting in my work, I love to use oil, acrylic and oil pastels, pencil, or charcoal for the drawings.”

Witold “Vito” Wojcik :
Vito uses a solid, conservative technique as a base to experimenting with Pop Art at first, then figurative abstract and finally the realistic deformation. The female of imaginative, non-existent, broken perfection appears in all her body strength and then sweeps away into the uncertain reality of doubled canvas.
He creates art using extensive experience, respect for craftsmanship and constant longing for new approach to old ideas.
