What is it? How prepared are we? Bird Flu, West Nile, and Lyme Disease

D r. Jean Hudson will give an overview of preparations for a possible pandemic. Each panelist will explain his/her position in relation to the topic. Moderator Beverley Marchesani will facilitate the panel and take questions which will be answered by panelists.

About the Participants

Dr. Jean Hudson

Dr. Jean Hudson received her medical degree from Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London, England.  She received her Masters in Public Health from New York Medical College,  she is a board-certified family physician.  Dr. Hudson was appointed Commissioner of the Orange County Department of Health in September 2003.  Previous to that appointment, she served as Deputy Commissioner for Community Health Services in the Westchester County Department of Health.

Seamus Leary

Seamus Leary holds a BA in History and Political Science from Norwich University, Military College of Vermont.  He received his Masters in Public Administration from Marist College.  Seamus Leary is a Certified Emergency Manager. He assumed the duties of the Director of Public Health Emergency Response in December 2002.  Before joining the Orange County Department of Health, he was a Commissioned Officer on active duty in the United States Army.

Carol Tunney

Carol Tunney is a Licensed Registered Professional Nurse, employed by Elant at Newburgh as the Director of Nursing. She has worked in various nursing positions in the Long Term Care setting since 1982. She is a Task force committee member working in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health on elopement guidelines for Long Term Care Facilities.  She is also a current APIC (Association of Professionals in Infection Control) member.

John R. Hunziker

John R. Hunziker is a Board Certified Infection Control Practioner.  He has a BS in Biology and an MS in Healthcare Administration, and was formerly an adjunct instructor at Mount St. Mary College.  He was a Senior Clinical Microbiologist, Infection Control Practioner, and Risk Manager at Cornwall Hospital for 29 years until his retirement.  In addition, he is a member of the Orange County Medical Reserve Corps.

Major Richard Cichy

Major Richard Cichy is a Registered Nurse, and is the Chief of Public Health Nursing in the Preventive Medical Unit at Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point.  Previous to Keller Hospital, Major Cichy worked in similar capacities in Seoul, Korea and Heidelberg, Germany.

Beverley Marchesani

Beverley Marchesani, RN is a nursing instructor at Orange County Community College. She has a BS from Rutgers University and an MS from Russell Sage College.
