Watercolorists Midge Bremer of the Town of Walkill and San-San Yu of the Town of Greenville will display 75 works demonstrating distinctly different styles. The interesting surprise is that Midge Bremer uses watercolor in the technique of Oriental brush painting while San-San Yu paints in the method of western watercolor.

While living in Hong Kong, Queens, NY native Midge Bremer studied Chinese brush painting under the direction of Han Ling Yueng, and then continued her learning upon her return to the United States by studying Japanese Sumi-e Painting with Yukio Tashiro in New York at the China Institute of Manhattan. She is a member of the Oriental Brush Artists Guild, the Orange County Art Federation, the Middletown Art Group, the Goshen Art League, and the Warwick Art League.

Born in Taiwan, San-San Yu took up watercolor painting after living in the Town of Greenville for several years. She studied under two well-known watercolorists - Friede Strobol and Mel Stabin. She prefers a loose, transparent application. She is a Signature Member of the Audubon Artists of New York City, the Warwick Art League, and is a four-time recipient of the Watercolor Gold Award given by the Orange County Art Federation.

Within the exhibit space, a display of brushes, paints, and papers will show contrasting examples of the materials used in eastern and western watercolor techniques.

During the November 5th Opening Reception, Midge Bremer will give a demonstration of Oriental brush painting from 2:30 - 3:15PM. In addition, Beverly Poyerd of Washingtonville will provide music on the baby grand piano.

Orange Hall, which is universally accessible, is located at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview Avenues, on the campus of SUNY Orange in Middletown, NY. This Lyceum event is presented by Cultural Affairs. For more information, contact Cultural Affairs by phone at (845) 341-4891, or by email at cultural@sunyorange.edu.
