Visual Voice
an art master class with demonstration by Aleathia Brown, artist with discussion on making it as an artist while preserving culture/heritage
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2006 @ 7:15 PM
Orange Hall Gallery
Aleathia Brown explains that her art documents community and cultural history. During the Master Class, she will relate her journey as an African-American artist in the art world -- demonstrating technique, detailing influences in her life, and describing what brings her inspiration. Aleathia, who resides in the Bronx, is an engaging speaker as she discusses her struggles, challenges, and rewarding experiences. She is one of the four artists whose works are on display through February 26th in Orange Hall Gallery in the show:
Artworks by Contemporary African-American artists
Toph, Aleathia Brown, Tracey Moore, Maxwell Kofi Donkor
--paintings, drawings, sculptures--
She works in several media.
Part of the Master Class will include a CD-ROM slide presentation with some narratives that will enhance and examine the works both on view as well as works in her collection. In addition, she will talk about making a living at art, give ideas on the presentation of one’s works in exhibit and in the portfolio, and comment on balancing the practical end of art and with the creative.
