SUNY Orange

The Criminal Justice Club

The Criminal Justice is made up of concerned students who meet regularly for the purpose of discussing emerging issues in criminal justice.

In addition, the Club engages in a variety of campus wide initiatives.  This academic year, the Club has hosted numerous films, raised money during the holiday season for needy local families, participated in a food drive and food giveaway, and staged a mock presidential election last November.

The Club also takes field trips intended to provide its members with hands-on experiences germane to their studies.  During the last few semesters they have taken trips to the 9-11 Museum and the Orange County Jail.  This semester, they are planning a trip to the New York City Police Museum in Manhattan.

The faculty advisor for the Criminal Justice Club is Robert J. Cacciatore, a second year instructor here at SUNY Orange.  He and Professor Dennis O’Loughlin, the Criminal Justice Department Chair, strongly support the club in all their efforts and in the words of Professor O’Loughlin “It's really great to watch these students gather on their own time to do what they do. At the end of the day, the Club teaches them not only about issues involving criminal justice, but about social responsibility as well”.

The Club, which is a highly democratic organization, is run by a students who are elected to their positions. The current board includes:

  • Elizabeth Degroate – President
  • Gregg Atlas – Vice President
  • Marlyn Defreece – Treasurer
  • Nick Vriesema – Secretary
