N3029 - Nursing Bridge Course I

This course is designed for students requesting re-admission to the OCCC nursing program and for LPN’s requesting advanced standing to NUR 102. Content includes current nursing program policies, medication calculations, nursing process, legal and ethical issues in nursing, review of infection control and review of select nursing procedures. There will be graded quizzes, laboratory demonstrations with practice time and homework assignments.  Students will have an opportunity to practice selected skills during the Bridge Course.  Evaluations of these skills will occur during the first week of Fall Semester.  Students must be able to satisfactory demonstrate the perfomance of these skills prior to attending the clinical component of the enrolled nursing course.  Students must achieve a grade of 90% on Clinical Calculations skill exam (CCSE) Level 1 to enter NUR 102, a grade of 95 on CCSE Level II to enter NUR 201, and a grade of 100 on CCSE Level III to enter NUR 202. The CCSE will only be given one time. Calculators are permitted.  All students are required to purchase Schuster, Concept Mapping: A Critical approach to care planning, 3rd edition AND  Mulholland, The Nurse, The Math, The Meds Drug Calculations using Dimensional Analysis 2nd Edition AND Ackley & Ladwig, Nursing Diagnosis books 10th Edition. Successful completion of this course is required for consideration for admission/readmission into the nursing program.  Students must attend all classes. 4 sessions
