Adding a New Course Offering
A. For the Following Academic Year
Since multiple approvals are involved for adding a new CCHS course at a high school, the following timeline is strongly recommended. Requests that come after these guidelines will be reviewed, however, the probability of granting the high school's request diminishes with each passing month.
September-November
The appropriate high school administrator or School Board grants permission to expand the CCHS Program at the high school for the following academic year. The CCHS Program Coordinator is contacted by the high school to request the addition of an established college course for the following year. The Coordinator will inform the appropriate College department chair that a request has been made. The SUNY Orange department chair will then discuss course specifics with the appropriate high school administrator.
December-January
If a high school instructor is to be recommended to teach CCHS courses, the following information must be submitted by the end of January:
All materials should be sent to the CCHS Program Coordinator at: SUNY Orange, 115 South Street, Middletown, NY 10940. When all of the materials are received, they will be forwarded to the appropriate SUNY Orange department chair for review of qualifications. The department chair will contact the candidate to schedule an interview if appropriate, or contact the CCHS Program Coordinator if the candidate does not meet the minimum requirements set forth by the department.
February
Candidate review process is completed. If the candidate is approved, a recommendation will be sent by the SUNY Orange department chair to the appropriate AVP and the CCHS Program Coordinator. The Coordinator will send a letter of acceptance to the candidate and high school principal. If the candidate is not approved, alternative means of providing instruction will be discussed prior to establishing an agreement to offer the course in the following academic year.
February-June
Announcement of a new CCHS course is made to eligible students. The number of interested students will be reported to the CCHS Program Coordinator. Textbooks will be ordered as indicated in the agreement letter.
March-next academic year
The appropriate SUNY Orange department chair will determine the training necessary for the new instructor. The training should include pre-course individual meetings, introduction to a department adjunct mentor (especially for Biology and Chemistry), as well as, ongoing workshops established by the College department.
B. For the Spring Semester of the Same Academic Year
Since multiple approvals are involved for adding a new CCHS course at a high school, the following timeline is strongly recommended. Requests that come after these guidelines will be reviewed, however, the probability of granting the high school's request diminishes with each passing month. ** English and Foreign Languages, Biology and Chemistry courses MUST follow the "Adding a New Course Offering: For the Next Academic Year."

Creating a New CCHS Program at a High School
Building a new relationship with a high school takes a significant amount of time. Many requirements need to be met before the program can begin, such as, budget approval, school board approval, faculty approval and course requirements. For this reason, the following timeline has been established. This timeline increases the probability that a new program will be established in time for the next academic year. Later requests will be reviewed, however, the program will most likely experience delays in initiation.
September-November
A high school or district administrator contacts the CCHS Program Coordinator to meet and discuss the Program and course descriptions. The high school gets school board approval and the CCHS contract is signed.
November-December
The high school or district administrator identifies which college course(s) they would like to offer for the following academic year. This request must be made directly to the CCHS Program Coordinator. The Coordinator will inform the appropriate SUNY Orange department chair(s) that a request has been made. The department chair(s) will then discuss course specifics with the appropriate high school administrator.
