Commitment to Traffic & Pedestrian Safety
WHEREAS, Orange County Community College is located at 115 South Street, spanning from Grandview Avenue through Randall Terrace, including the vicinity of South Street and East Conklin Avenue, and
WHEREAS, there is a clear and present danger to pedestrians crossing South Street between East Conklin Avenue and Bennett Street, and
WHEREAS, the speed of motorists goes unchecked from Web Road to the three-way stop sign at South and Bennett Streets, and
WHEREAS, the crosswalks between East Conklin Avenue and Bennett Street are main corridors for students connecting the College to other campus buildings, and
WHEREAS, that despite the 20 mph speed limit and the three-way stop sign at the corner of South Street and Bennett Street, the rising number of accidents present clear risks to pedestrians and motorists alike; and therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of Orange County Community College concludes that that there is a need for traffic calming devices to guarantee the safety of pedestrians and motorists;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of Orange County Community College petitions the City of Middletown to consider and implement a solution to correct this situation and prevent further personal injury and potential loss of life.
