SUNY Orange, "If you have the dream, we have the way!"

Dr. Verheyden

anouk_verheydenHi, my name is Dr. Anouk Verheyden-Gillikin. I grew up in Brussels, Belgium and spent much of my childhood and teenage years traveling around Europe and hiking in the Alps. When I was 18, I participated in a cultural exchange program and lived for one year in Thailand. Back in Belgium, I obtained a Bachelor in Biology from the Free University of Brussels, during which I participated in a university exchange program and spent one year at the University of Manchester, UK. For my M.Sc. project, I studied mangrove vegetation dynamics in Sri Lanka, and during my Ph.D. I investigated the wood of Kenyan mangrove trees. I continued to work on dendrochronology of tropical trees during a post-doc in Germany and later at the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Belgium. After moving to the US, I was thrilled to find this position at SUNY Orange, where I started teaching in the fall of 2006. I teach Diversity of life, Introduction to Biology and General Biology II.  I love teaching biology! I hope that during my teaching I can pass on some of the passion I have for science and the natural world to future scientists.
