Middletown, NY - The Region XV volleyball committee and coaches met Sunday morning to hash out which teams had qualified for playoffs and what seeds those teams would be. SUNY Orange, this year's Mid Hudson Conference Champion, qualified for the Region XV Volleyball Tournament and enters as the sixth seed. Orange will travel to third seeded Queensborough on Thursday night for a quarter-final matchup.
Two Orange women were also recognized for their contributions to the team this year. Kayla Holterman, a sophomore who graduated from S.S. Seward High School, was named to the Region XV first team. Holterman, an outside hitter, was a force for Orange this year and a catalyst for helping the team win the Mid Hudson Conference and qualifying for the playoffs. Holterman was among the region leaders in kills per set with an average of 2.28. Kayla was also one of the best servers in the region. She was third in aces at almost one a game. Kayla also showed that she was an all around player by amassing 121 digs on the year. The other Orange player recognized by the region this year was Valley Central grad Paige Van Pelt. Paige, a sophomore, was a Region XV Sportsman's Award recipient. Kayla was a front line force for the Colts who was a top player in the region with over 2 kills per game and also lead the team in blocks. As a duo, the pair helped Orange to be the second best team in the region in kills and third in digs.
