Orange Volleyball qualifies for Post Season;Two Players Garner Post Season Honors

Middletown, NY - The Region XV volleyball committee and coaches met Sunday morning to hash out which teams had qualified for playoffs and what seeds those teams would be. SUNY Orange, this year's Mid Hudson Conference Champion, qualified for the Region XV Volleyball Tournament and enters as the sixth seed. Orange will travel to third seeded Queensborough on Thursday night for a quarter-final matchup.
Two Orange women were also recognized for their contributions to the team this year. Kayla Holterman, a sophomore who graduated from S.S. Seward High School, was named to the Region XV first team. Holterman, an outside hitter, was a force for Orange this year and a catalyst for helping the team win the Mid Hudson Conference and qualifying for the playoffs. Holterman was among the region leaders in kills per set with an average of 2.28. Kayla was also one of the best servers in the region. She was third in aces at almost one a game. Kayla also showed that she was an all around player by amassing 121 digs on the year. The other Orange player recognized by the region this year was Valley Central grad Paige Van Pelt. Paige, a sophomore, was a Region XV Sportsman's Award recipient. Kayla was a front line force for the Colts who was a top player in the region with over 2 kills per game and also lead the team in blocks. As a duo, the pair helped Orange to be the second best team in the region in kills and third in digs.
SUNY Orange Volleyball off to 6-0 Conference Start

Middletown, NY - Heading into Tuesday night's road tilt with the Rockland Community College Hawks, the SUNY Orange volleyball team is sporting an unbeaten record in Mid Hudson Conference play. Orange's 6-0 start has the team poised to make a run at the conference title and also qualifying for the ultracompetitive Region 15 tournament. Orange is battle tested after opening the season in the very tough Lackawanna Tournament. Since that opening tournament, Orange has gone 6-2 dropping two hard fought matches to Long Island powers Suffolk and Nassau. In addition to the Rockland match, Orange is home against Ulster on Thursday at 7:00 PM, and finishes up conference play next week with a home game against Dutchess on Tuesday and Sullivan on the road Thursday.
Orange features a balanced attack with contributions from many different players. On the front line, Sophomore outside hitter, Kayla Holterman, leads the way with 53 kills, 8 blocks, and 18 service aces. Sophomore middle hitter, Paige Van Pelt is right behind tallying 43 kills and is the team leader with 9 blocks and 24 service aces. Defensively, freshman Brianna Joyner leads the way with 71 digs while sophomore Brittany Albert has accumulated 50 digs and 15 service aces. Sophomore setter, Sierra Hernandez has 114 assists and averages over 4 assists per game.
Volleyball Prepares for Regional Tournament

The SUNY Orange volleyball team will be the #8 seed for the Region XV Tournament beginning this week. The 11-12 Colts will travel to Suffolk to play the #1 seeded Clippers on Thursday 10/30, with the winner advancing to the Semifinals on Saturday, 11/1 at Nassau. This past weekend FR Kayla Holterman and SO Alexis Pascal were named to the All Region XV VB second team and honorable mention teams, respectively. SO Angelia Cirigliano was named to the Regional All Sportsmanship team.
