WAYS of GIVING and DONOR RECOGNITION You decide how to make a gift to the Campaign, taking into account your particular interests, resources and distinct tax considerations. Your gifts and pledges may be paid by check, transfer of appreciated securities or charged on a credit card, and if you are a College employee, there is the option of payroll deduction plans. Hint – Transferring appreciated securities may provide you with greater tax advantages. Gifts charged to credit cards may earn mileage. GIFT CONSIDERATIONS Giving thoughtful consideration to committing to the Campaign is a highly personal decision, one that frequently begins with a conversation with spouses, loved ones or other family members. Those conversations typically focus on what you hope your gift will achieve – making a difference and creating a legacy. Your gift has the potential to alter the life of a student by fulfilling the dream of an education, to help shape the future of Orange County Community College and quite possibly, to influence an entire community. Directing your gift to support one of the following funds will fit within the Campaign priorities. SCHOLARSHIPS Are at the heart of providing access to quality education. You can establish a new fund (certain minimum gift levels may apply) or support an existing fund. The College has identified several priority scholarship areas: President’s Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement – Awarded to Orange County high school graduates in the top 10% of their class Performing & Fine Arts – Allows the College to attract talented Orange County residents to continue pursuit of a career in theater, music and art. Gives them the building blocks to transfer to leading universities in the fine and performing arts Intercollegiate Athletics – Brings the County’s stars to playing fields and courts of SUNY Orange, providing a full college experience for all to enjoy in baseball, basketball or softball General Scholarship – Provides the Educational Foundation the flexibility to allocate scholarships where the need is greatest Foundation Discretionary Fund – Provides resources for the Foundation to direct gifts wherever student or College need is greatest. Consider two options, an Endowed Scholarship, where investment income generates awards in perpetuity, or an Annual Scholarship, which is awarded until your gift is fully expended. Note: For a new named endowed scholarship the minimum gift required is $25,000, which may be pledged over a period of up to five years. THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE FUND provides the Middletown Campus with critical resources to enrich classrooms and laboratories. THE NEWBURGH CAMPUS CAPITAL FUND augments public funding and creates enhanced spaces to make a great project greater. To help decide how much impact your gift may have, please think about the following illustrations – A PLEDGE OF $100,000 Equips a lab in support of the College’s extensive nursing or health professions programs or… Endows a fund to provide up to two full scholarships per year in perpetuity. A PLEDGE OF $50,000 Will equip a “smart classroom” as part of the Newburgh Campus expansion. A PLEDGE OF $5,000 PER YEAR FOR 5 YEARS Establishes an endowed scholarship fund that will provide (under current investment policy) a $1,250 scholarship in perpetuity. Endowed scholarships are a great way to keep the memory of a loved one alive forever or… Provides the scientific and technological teaching resources necessary for SUNY Orange students to support a worldclass Orange County workforce. A PLEDGE OF $2,000 PER YEAR FOR 5 YEARS Will outfit one English as a Second Language Classroom on the Newburgh Campus. A PLEDGE OF $1,000 PER YEAR FOR 5 YEARS Enhances the teaching resources of the Middletown campus, outfitting three student computer work stations in the College’s new “Smart Classroom” environment. PLEDGES You are encouraged to consider a gift pledge, a way for you to make a significant commitment to the Campaign while being respectful of your personal financial circumstances. While most pledges are for a threeto fiveyear period, longer term pledges can be arranged. Payroll deductions can be pledged over similar periods. THEIR FUTURE. YOUR LEGACY Are you committed to the College, interested in supporting the Campaign, but find that you have reservations about making a commitment now because you are retired, near retirement or have other obligations such as caring for an elderly parent or family member? Consider taking advantage of gift options outlined in Their Future. Your Legacy, the Educational Foundation’s Deferred Gift Program. This program provides recommendations and information on bequests, incomeproducing charitable trusts or other deferred gifts to meet both your gift intentions and your retirement income or estate planning needs. MATCHING GIFTS We recommend checking with your personnel office to see if you or your spouse is eligible for an employer match to your generosity. A SPECIAL THANK YOU Unless you request to remain anonymous, your name(s) will appear on all Campaignrelated materials as a demonstration of the College’s appreciation of your gift, regardless of the amount. An additional note of appreciation will be afforded to a gift of $1,000 or more, which will be publicly acknowledged on a wall of recognition to be located in a prominent campus location. NAMED GIFT OPPORTUNITIES If you are contemplating making a gift of $2,500 or more, review the College’s naming opportunities list. If you have an idea that is not on the list, we are always ready for a great suggestion. TAXES AND OTHER MATTERS Your gift is administered by the Educational Foundation of Orange County Community College, a notforprofit corporation that is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c) 3 corporation. Therefore, your gift will provide full tax benefits if you itemize deductions. Please remember, however, that you are encouraged to seek counsel from your advisors in considering the tax benefits of your gift.
